A 3 night cycling holiday, designed to make the most of the winter months. Cycling between 20 and 25 miles each day, your EBike holiday will take you to the lovely city of Lichfield, a food lovers dream and perfect for a wander on a winter's day. The serene National Memorial Arboretum is a delight to explore on a crisp winter's day and is hosting the Hold Still exhibition until 6th December, focusing on life in the UK during Lockdown. The boardwalk at Barton Marina is the perfect place to grab a seat in the sun, whilst enjoying a drink or lunch. It's home to a number of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. A fabulous network of tracks takes you through the Forest, where you can learn more about its transformation from black to green. The area include lots of cafes, designed for sitting outside in all seasons. You can even warm up with a delicious hot chocolate, straight from the neighbouring artisan choclatier.

ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS
Enjoy a wander around the National Memorial Arboretum. Explore the little city of Lichfield, with its lovely independent shops and 3 spired cathedral. Discover the history of Market Bosworth and the death of King Richard iii. Warm up with a delicious hot chocolate in an old stables, made by the on site choclatier. Relax on the boardwalk at Barton Marina, watching the world go by. Discover the transformation of the National Forest from black to green.
ITINERARY
DAY 1: After you have settled in at your hotel, we will bring the bikes to your hotel and ensure that they are fitted to you. We'll share our favourite tips on the area and ensure that you have everything you need for a perfect EBike cycling holiday. Depending on your day of arrival, take a ride on the local Battlefield Steam Railway, or a walk in the beautiful country park. Enjoy a delicious meal in one of the local restaurants, sitting around the old market square.
DAY 2: Your route today meanders through quiet lanes and crisscrosses through the counties. The little cafe and sheltered courtyard at Thorpe Hall is the perfect place to enjoy a warming hot chocolate and fresh pastry, freshly prepared by the neighbouring choclatier. Garden lovers will enjoy a short detour to the fabulous walled community gardens at Elford, a short distance from Lichfield, your overnight stop tonight. Your hotel is in the centre of Lichfield, perfectly placed for sightseeing. We recommend a visit to the 3 spired cathedral. In mid December it will be illuminated every evening, with a Christmas theme. Lichfield is a lovely little place for some shopping and is a foodie paradise, with a wide range of restaurants for every taste.
DAY 3: First stop today is the fabulous National Memorial Arboretum, a short distance from Lichfield. It's a wonderful place to visit in every season. Discover the stories behind the memorials, as you wander through the 300 acres of woodland and grounds. The Arboretum is currently playing host to the Hold Still exhibition, which looks at life in Lockdown Britain. A short distance from the Arboretum is bustling Barton Marina, sat alongside the Trent and Mersey canal. This is the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon drink, outside on the sunny boardwalk, watching the boats in the Marina. The Marina also has a lovely range of small independent shops for a little retail therapy. Your hotel tonight sits alongside the River Trent, a short distance from the centre of Burton upon Trent and at the edge of a nature reserve. It's a great place for an evening stroll and home to kingfishers and heron.
DAY 4: Your route back to Market Bosworth takes you into the heart of the National Forest. Where once there were coal mines and clay pits, enjoy forest tracks and lakeside views. Stop at the canalside Moira Furnace, a restored blast furnace, before following an old railway track. Leaving the Forest, you will meander through a maze of little lanes, crisscrossing the Ashby Canal. Along the way, you stop for a snack at an Alpaca cafe. The log cabin is reminiscent of an alpine hut and just as cosy. Alternatively, call in to the Victorian station platform cafe at the Battlefield Line, where the fire will be blazing. Here the Ashby canal and old railway sit side by side. You will often see the volunteers at work maintaining the engines here.
